IF EVER THERE WAS A TIME TO JOIN UNISON THIS IS IT!

Following the budget meeting in the Town House in Haddington on Tuesday, 9th February 2010, the current SNP/Lib Dem Administration have set a budget with £8.1 million savings for this coming year.  The following are some of the areas being looked at:

  • Payroll and H.R. going out to shared services.  (This may be a private company).
  • Schools moving to Trust Status.
  • All or some of Community Wellbeing going out to Trust Status.
  • Joint Headships in schools and also possible shared administration between schools.

This Administration say we have to make savings but at what cost?  Depletion of Council services and job cuts!
Start spreading the word because times are going to get tougher within East Lothian Council and there may be a long fight ahead.

As far as Unison can see no-one's job is safe.  East Lothian Council's Workforce Management Strategy group have been set a target by the current SNP/Lib Dem Administration to achieve a 12% cut in salary costs over the next 3 years.

Although the SNP/Lib Dem Administration have said no compulsory redundancies will happen this year, the only way UNISON can see how these savings can be met is by cutting the salary budget.

You can join on line or contact the Local Office at Haddington (details are on contact page).
